Monotype is a wonderful medium for revenge because of its obsessive potential. Working on a smooth surface allows me to throw down words, forward and backwards, in ink or in flash oil, wiping away, rolling out, and deconstructing until I get an appropriately angry texture.
Not a fan of confrontation, I need to step away to process my thoughts. Monotype allows me to say all of those things I didn’t say in the moment, all at once. Hence, the Caterwaul. Fortunately for me and unfortunately for my portfolio, this is my smallest body of work.
Updated to add that this series also includes resignation, sadness, disappointment, frustration, etc. But man, I’m getting some great textures. And clown barf. (May 2013).
